Barbaro's breathtaking victory in the 2006 Kentucky Derby put his
name on the lips of racing fans as the next Triple Crown winner. But moments
after the start of the Preakness those hopes were dashed when jockey Edgar Prado
desperately pulled Barbaro up, the colt having taken a bad step, shattering his
hind leg.
In the days and weeks and months that followed, a concerned public watched as
Dr. Dean Richardson and his New Bolton team worked to save Barbaro's life.
