Updated, revised edition

You can acquire the perfectly balanced seat and overcome the majority of your riding problems by understanding balance.  It is possible and this book will show you how.

Susanne von Dietze is a physiotherapist and riding instructor based in Germany.  Her background and training enable her to understand the complex physical relationship between horse and rider.  In her book, Balance in Movement, she explains how riders of all levels can overcome riding problems and acquire a perfectly balanced seat.

There are essentially four training categories in which rider must become proficient:  seat, aids, feel and influence.  All of these areas are affected by balance and movement.  Almost all riding mistakes can be classified as balance mistakes.  Horse, rider, or both are out of balance and it is important to find out where and why balance is lost.

The author discusses some common balance problems and how to correct them such as riding ahead of or behind the motion of the horse, rising up too high and too fast at the trot, getting behind or ahead of the horse over a jump and much more.  A horse whose balance is upset several times over a jump will soon refuse to jump. Learn how to correct your balance and re-instill confidence in your horse.

Riding is movement!  With pictures and illustrations that show the correct as well as the incorrect riding positions, you will be able to see clearly what you can do to obtain the perfectly balanced seat.
