This DVD is just what horse people have been asking for.
Monty
took the 8 most commonly-asked horsetraining questions and developed the
answers into this quality educational DVD. Monty shows
you how to use his techniques and the Dually
Halter to teach young horses how to accept new situations as well as how to
redirect problem behaviors in remedial horses.
Fix-Up contains step-by-step
instructions demonstrated on some very good-looking horses, all of which are
depicted because of their actual need for the training or retraining. Some
solutions are short and sweet and some can take many sessions but all are
successful, non-violent and most importantly safe for both horse and handler.
This DVD comes highly recommended by our staff. It is important to
remember that the techniques in these videos are most effective if the handler
is already familiar with the training techniques illustrated in Monty's previous
DVDs, Join-Up and
Follow Up.
Part 1: Crossing Water - Head Shy - Pull Back
The first part of this DVD addresses the horse that is
not willing to cross water. For many pleasure/competitive trail riders, eventers
and jumpers this
can cause major problems. Watch as Monty uses the Dually Halter and a lead
horse to help a young horse overcome his natural fear of water. Next learn how
to decrease the natural sensitivity of a horse's ears so that clipping can be a
safe and comfortable experience for both horse and handler. Lastly, let Monty
show you a quick, easy and safe solution to protect and retrain the horse
that pulls back when tied.
Part 2: Veterinarian - Loader - Mounting - Kicking
Rings
Part 2 takes you through four very practical problems
that all horseowners must deal with. First, Monty teaches you how to train your
horse to willingly accept veterinary care. A veterinarian is on hand to explain
the benefits that this skill provides you, your horse and your pocketbook. All
horseowners must be capable of loading their horses safely and quickly into a
trailer. Even those who do not travel with their horses for showing or breeding must accept the
possibility of an emergency trip to the clinic for colic surgery or displacement
due to a barn fire. Monty shows you how to persuade even the most impossible
horse to load into a trailer without pulling, without pushing and without
violence. Next, learn how to rid your horse of that nasty little habit of
walking (or trotting, or cantering) off while you are trying to mount or
dismount. Although it is an annoying habit, it can also be a dangerous one.
Lastly, let Monty show you how "kicking rings" not only stop horses
from kicking but also encourage healthy hoof growth.
Part 3:
Preparing for the Farrier In
the last and longest part of the DVD, Monty Roberts discusses the many issues
that are involved in training or retraining your horse to willingly accept farrier work. Monty explains that it is not practical to expect a young and inexperienced horse or a horse that has had a bad farrier experience to be
comfortable with having their feet worked on. By showing you how to condition
your horse to become accepting of extensive human touch in the leg and hoof
area, you can mentally prepare your young or remedial horse for a successful
farrier visit. Monty gives you the skills to accomplish this task safely and
completely and even gives his thoughts on what to look for in a good farrier.
This video is particularly helpful to the owner who believes their only options
are using a twitch or sedatives in order to carry out farrier work on their
horses.
We highly suggest (and so does Monty) that you view the
instructional How to Use the Dually Halter DVD before you use
your Dually Halter or attempt the techniques illustrated in the Fix-Up
DVD. Order the Dually Halter
