The story of racing legend Man o' War and his owners
To most readers of current turf history, Sam Riddle was the dour and
difficult businessman who, it was said, ruined the stud career of Man o'
War. He certainly didn't win any popularity contests in the War Admiral
- Seabiscuit confrontation.
Pedigree analyst and author Rommy Faversham explains the close connection
between Riddle and Walter Jeffords. Their racing and training enterprises were
closely associated but their combined breeding philosophies changed the
landscape of American Thoroughbred pedigrees. The team bred the likes of War
Relic, War Admiral, Crusader and more. Man o' War is one of the few American
male lines from the first half of the 20th century that remains viable today.
