A Horse of Paradoxes
A son of the great Man O' War, War Admiral had much to live up to. His
imposing chestnut father was a legend as a racehorse and as a sire.
Indeed, Man O' War was a national hero in the 1930's.
Though he didn't resemble his father in looks, the unflappable brown colt
went on to make his sire and his owner - the illustrious Samuel Riddle -
proud. His 1937 Triple Crown victory was followed by a championship
three-year-old season and Horse of the Year title. Best remembered for his
1938 Pimlico Special loss to Seabiscuit, War Admiral finished his four-year-old
season a winner nonetheless. Again his father's best son, War Admiral
progeny include 40 stakes winners that inherited his great heart both in spirit
and in physical size.
