Q8) What is a "breakaway" system?
All new trailers must have an operating breakaway system
installed. (Some states require this system on all trailers). Older
model trailers in states that do not require such systems do not have to
retrofit their trailers for this system.
A breakaway system is a battery which is wired into the electric
brake system through a switch. If the trailer comes unhitched, the switch is
pulled which engages the system and slows or stops the trailer.
