Q10) Where do I register my silks design?
Registration varies from state to state, but you'll generally register your
silks with the racing office at the track where your horses will run. If your
horses will race at multiple tracks, call to be sure each track has your
information. Often tracks share this information, but not always.
In some states, there is no fee and the description of the silks can be done
over the phone. In others, you must mail paperwork ahead of time. New York is the strictest
on registration and charges a $100 fee. Owners racing in New York
must register with The Jockey Club, and doing so guarantees exclusive use of a
design when racing in New York State. Owners racing elsewhere may register with
The Jockey Club if they wish, but it's not required.
Your registration provides Daily Racing Form and the race program with
a description of your silks for people watching the race.
