Excerpts from the October, 1999 issue of Horse & Rider magazine review by Jennifer J. Denison of Gigi Bailey's video, Ten Steps to Winning at Hunter Under Saddle.

"If you've just added hunter under saddle to your competitive resume, or are thinking about itr, this video offers sound, practical advice to help get your started.  In this 60- minute program, world champion hunter trainer and coach - and National Snaffle Bit Association Judge - Gigi Bailey of DePere, Wisconsin, gives you a general overview of the 10 key components she believes makes or breaks a champion.

"You may think hunter under saddle is simply about walking, trotting, and loping, but Bailey's presentation convinces you otherwise.  She guides you through selecting, developing, and finishing a prospect, caring for and conditioning your campaigner; acclimating him to the show environment; and preparing yourself mentally and physically for show-pen pressures.  if you successfully complete her 10-step program, you and your horse should create an image that's sure to positively influence the judge.

"... Bailey critiques the conformation of four different types of horses - ranging from a 17-hand Thoroughbred to a 15-hand Quarter horse - then shows you how each horse's form affects his movement.  This visual image is definitely one you want to ingrain in your memory when it's time to go horse shopping, because it'll help you decide what type of horse fits your competitive needs.  Also included are brief shots of longeing techniques, examples of improper and proper hand position, mandatory turnout, and other show basics.

"I tip my hat to this video's videographer and producers, as the production's sound and quality are some of the dearest I've seen in the equine-video market.  As an owner of an Appendix Quarter horse, I appreciated the trainer's tips for managing the stubborn - sometimes timid - temperament common among Thoroughbreds.  This advice will come in handy when I introduce my youngster to the show pen."
