Excerpts from the November, 1999 issue of The Horse
magazine review by Charlene Strickland of Gigi Bailey's video, Ten Steps to
Winning at Hunter Under Saddle.
"Gigi Bailey, a winning Quarter Horse trainer, shares
advice on the this class in AQHA competition. In a clinic situation, she
discusses a program aimed at getting high scores in the show ring. Her
information will benefit any rider who aims to compete in this rail class.
"... Bailey talks about the steps of choosing and
schooling the prospect, preparations and strategies for showing, attire, and the
psychology of competition. Probably the video's best scenes are the ones
when she uses a lineup of five very different Quarter Horses to compare body
types and demonstrate how all can prove themselves as good movers. She
emphasizes how the good-moving horse propels itself from the hindquarters.
As many Quarter Horse hunters are of Thoroughbred bloodlines, she shares
real-world advice on coping with the sensitivity associated with that
breeding. Her tips also cover ways that the rider can influence the
horse's performance."
